The Parking and Transportation Department provides and supports access, mobility, and transportation services to faculty, staff, students, patients, and visitors of the University of Iowa. The department consists of five operating units: Cambus, Commuter Programs, Fleet Services, Facility Operations, and Parking Services. These units collaborate to provide a broad range of parking and transportation options and services.

The Hawkeye Parking Ramp is nearly complete and will open for hourly use the week of March 24. The facility is the latest addition to west side parking, adding 983 spaces.

The Parking and Transportation Department has implemented a chat client that can answer frequently asked questions (FAQs). This innovative tool uses a locally hosted database to answer common questions and help direct users to webpages with additional information.

UI receives $16M grant for Cambus system improvements

The Federal Transit Administration awarded the University of Iowa a $16.4 million grant for improvements to the Cambus system, including the purchase of six new battery-electric buses that will help the UI reach its sustainability goals. In addition, the funds will help provide updates to the Cambus Maintenance Facility.

Student Parking

Parking and Transportation offers a variety of student parking options available for both permit and hourly use. Student parking options are based on student classification and where the student lives. 

Employee Parking

Parking and Transportation provides more than 60 different parking facilities to employee parking around campus. Employees who choose to park on campus need to meet eligibility criteria.

Visitor/Patient Parking

Visitor parking on campus is available in public parking facilities (gated ramps/lots) and parking meters.

Alternative Transportation

Walk, pedal, ride, roll, share. Parking and Transportation offers and supports several alternative modes of transportation. All are encouraged to use alternative transportation or CAMBUS rather than drive.

CAMBUS

CAMBUS provides fixed-route service throughout campus at no fare and is available to the general public. CAMBUS is student operated and is a vivid example of the superior abilities and dedication of Iowa students.

U-PASS

Parking and Transportation sponsors the U-PASS program by offering bus passes to University faculty, staff and students at deeply discounted rates. U-PASS offers unlimited rides on Coralville Transit.  Iowa City Transit is fare free.

Helpful mobile apps

The Transit app covers all three systems on campus - CAMBUS, Iowa City Transit, and Coralville Transit. View upcoming departure times, trip planning, real-time locations for buses, closest stops, and much more.

The University of Iowa and the City of Iowa City partnered with the service ParkMobile to allow for online and mobile parking payments for hourly parking spaces.
