Stop #3125 Hawk Lot permanently relocated beginning February 10, 2020
February 4, 2020
The new shelter and bus stop at the Hawkeye Parking Lot will reach substantial completion on Monday, February 10. CAMBUS will begin serving the new stop, located approximately 200 feet south of the previous stop, on Monday, February 10. Buses will not stop at or pass by the old stop location.
About the project
The Hawkeye Transit Station is a project from the University of Iowa Parking and Transportation Department to improve customer experience in commuter lots and to more efficiently accommodate transit bus operations. The project also includes updated ADA accessible parking. The new Hawkeye Transit Station features several amenities to better serve riders. These features include:
- A larger shelter with a taller roof to accommodate more riders.
- Extended bench seating
- Bright lighting that is automatically activated
- On-demand heat that is activated by a button on the north wall of the shelter
- Roof overhang outside of the shelter to provide more sun and rain protection
- Two bus cut-outs so buses can better server the Hawkeye Parking Lot
- A display with large maps and bus schedules (coming soon)
Persons may note that there are not currently skirt panels between the concrete base and the glass walls of the shelter. Replacement skirt panels arrived in the incorrect size and replacements have been ordered. Upon delivery, the skirt panels will be installed to assist in blocking wind from the shelter.
Evenings at Hawkeye Parking Lot
Safety is a top priority for the University of Iowa. The brick structure located at the old stop location at the Hawkeye Parking Lot includes a security officer shelter. A UI Department of Public Safety security officer is stationed in the shelter from evening through morning hours to monitor activity and to assist permit holders. Permit holders can ask the officer for an escort to their vehicle during this time. The officer will remain stationed at the security guard shelter.
Riders are encouraged to use the mobile app, Transit, for trip-planning, bus departure predictions, and to view live bus tracking information. For questions about CAMBUS service, please call the dispatcher at 319-335-8633 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
