The Office of Sustainability and the Bicycle Advisory Committee announce the 2nd Annual Winter Warrior Bike Challenge.  See details from their announcement.

Calling all cyclists! Office of Sustainability and the Bicycle Advisory Committee invites you to join the 2nd Annual Winter Warrior Bike Challenge, a competition intended to show that winter biking can be a safe, fun and healthy way to get to class or work.

Biking to work or class during the winter months may seem daunting, but it actually isn't that hard, and turns out to be pretty fun! Join the Winter Warrior Challenge and bike to work or class as many times a week as you can Dec. 1-20, as long as you feel safe and comfortable. If you're a commuter cyclist during the warm months, or simply an avid biker, but store your bike come November, this challenge is for you! Bundle up, winterize your bike, and register today.

At the end of each week, log your activity on the challenge website. Prizes from local bike shops will be awarded for the most trips and miles ridden. Participants can also compete in photo contests such as most bundled for a winter bike commute. Photos can be posted to @UIsustainable on Twitter using the hashtag #hawkwinterwarrior or uploaded on the challenge site.

In 2013, nearly 200 UI students, faculty, and staff participated, logging 3,176 trips and 8,249 miles!  Check out the story from last year's event
