Parking and Transportation’s operations are focused on supporting the critical operations of UI Hospitals & Clinics and the university. The department will continue to evaluate and modify processes and operations in accordance with recommendations from public health officials to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Mask mandate lifted for CAMBUS

Face masks are no longer required when riding CAMBUS. The new guidance follows the April 18 federal court ruling against the mask requirement on public transportation. However, with COVID-19 still present in our community, face masks remain an effective tool for protecting yourself and others against the virus.

Hawk Lot-Hospital resumes increased service frequency beginning March 3

Beginning March 3, Hawk Lot-Hospital route service will be increased all day, in response to temporary parking relocations for Lot 85 permit holders. Frequent service for commuter routes is a strategy to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by reducing bus occupancy.

Hawk Lot-Hospital route service will be increased all day beginning March 3. AM and PM peak service will depart every 5 minutes. Midday and late evening service will depart every 10 minutes. On-Demand shuttle provides transportation on weeknights from 8:45 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. View the Hawk Lot-Hospital route scheduled as of March 3.

CAMBUS Face Mask Policy 

A mask requirement has been issued for public conveyances, including public transportation, by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Effective immediately, all CAMBUS riders must wear a face mask that covers both the nose and mouth of the wearer.

CAMBUS service for spring 2021 academic session beginning Jan. 24

University of Iowa CAMBUS is announcing service details for the spring 2021 academic session, Jan. 24 through May 14. Pre-pandemic route structures, such as all-day Red and Blue Route, with some minor schedule changes resumed Nov. 23 and will continue through May 2021. Service on the Hospital-Finkbine Arena route remains increased in response to COVID-19. Service details for each route are detailed in the service alert and are reflected on the route schedule pages.

CAMBUS announces service changes for winter break, Dec. 19, 2020 - Jan. 23, 2021

University of Iowa CAMBUS is making service changes for the upcoming winter break, Dec. 19 through Jan. 23. Fixed-route services end at 9 p.m. and On-Demand Shuttle is provided from 9 p.m. to 13:30 a.m. CAMBUS service will not operate on the weekends during winter break. Adjustments have been made to Red Route, Blue Route, Interdorm, and Mayflower Shuttle for the winter break period.

Additional Hospital-Finkbine/Arena service from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. beginning Nov. 23

CAMBUS is providing additional Hospital-Finkbine/Arena route service until 8 p.m. beginning Monday, Nov. 23. The service expansion will allow for departures approximately every 7 minutes until 8 p.m. from the West Campus Transportation Center (WCTC) to Parking Lot 65, Finkbine and Parking Lot 75, Arena. The additional service will remain in place while Parking Lot 85 permit holders are relocated during the winter months.

CAMBUS announces service for break periods and fall virtual instruction

University of Iowa CAMBUS is making service changes for the upcoming Thanksgiving break, virtual instruction period, and winter break, Nov. 23 through Jan. 23. Data models using fall ridership information project that these changes will continue to allow for less than 50% occupancy on buses.

CAMBUS to resume front door boarding beginning Sept. 21, 2020

Transparent barriers have been installed to shield drivers so riders can enter through the front doors. CAMBUS is resuming front door boarding on Monday, Sept. 21. Riders should always enter through the front doors. Rear doors should only be used when exiting.

CAMBUS invests in UV lights and driver barriers to further reduce spread of COVID-19

Enhanced bus cleaning and sanitation practices are a focus to reduce the spread of COVID-19. In addition to the disinfecting processes added in March, a UV light system has been implemented as part of the disinfecting process. Hand sanitizer dispensers also were recently installed near the rear doors. Transparent barriers are being installed to allow font door boarding to resume soon and to shield drivers.

CAMBUS reinstates service to some stops and adjusts weekday residence hall service beginning Sept. 1, 2020

Beginning Sept. 1 CAMBUS is reallocating a portion of underutilized service on the West Dorm Shuttle and Mayflower Shuttle to help meet other service needs. One bus from each route is being reallocated during the daytime to help meet other service needs, and service on these routes ends at 4 p.m. Four bus stops are also reinstated - IMU, Clinton & College, Church & Dubuque.

CAMBUS announces service changes effective Aug. 17 to better serve campus

University of Iowa CAMBUS is announcing service changes for the Fall 2020 semester. Service changes strategically reduce the number of riders on each bus and reduce riding time on a bus, both in response to COVID-19. Service changes are effective Monday, Aug. 17 through Friday, Nov. 20. The changes will be re-evaluated for the winter and spring service.

CAMBUS service operations beginning April 6, 2020 and night demand-response change

Interim Service will continue with some adjustments following analysis of recent ridership data and in-light of campus changes. Changes include suspending East Campus Shuttle and Hawkeye-Interdorm Route and switching to a demand-response service for service from 9 p.m. - 12 a.m. (midnight).

Weekday Interim service will be provided March 30 – April 3 with increased service for Parking Lot 65 and 75 during the peak of the AM and PM commute. This is the same level of service provided the week of March 23.

CAMBUS service adjustments for Hawkeye Parking Lot beginning March 24, 2020

CAMBUS will reduce service during the AM and PM peak to Hawkeye Parking Lot beginning Tuesday, March 24 to allocate additional service to Parking Lot 65, Finkbine Commuter and Parking Lot 75, Arena. In response to COVID-19, CAMBUS evaluates daily boarding numbers at commuter parking lots by departure and will quickly implement changes as needed in the interste of social distancing.

CAMBUS suspending weekend service until further notice beginning March 20, 2020

CAMBUS will be suspending all weekend service until further notice following campus adjustments in response to COVID-19. Interim Service will be provided March 23 – 27, 2020. CAMBUS will continue to evaluate the needs of campus with the UI Critical Incident Management Team and make adjustments accordingly.

In the interest of social distancing, CAMBUS has implemented additional departures from Parking Lot 65 (Finkbine Commuter), and Parking Lot 75 (Arena). These additional departures were implemented for service beginning Monday, March 23.

Additional CAMBUS departures for Parking Lots 65, 75, 85 during morning commute

In the interest of social distancing, CAMBUS has implemented additional departures from Parking Lot 85 (Hawkeye Commuter), Parking Lot 65 (Finkbine Commuter), and Parking Lot 75 (Arena). These additional departures were implemented for service beginning Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20. Additional departures will be announced for the week of March 23 before Friday, March 20.

Bus boarding and exiting procedure modified beginning March 17, 2020

Beginning Tuesday, March 17, riders should board and exit the bus using the rear doors. Riders with mobility concerns may continue to use the front door to board and exit. Riders who need assistance - bus lowered, ramp put out – are directed to knock on the front door for assistance. Complete information available in alert linked.

CAMBUS announcement: Bus sanitization process changed in response to COVID-19

Buses are cleaned nightly with an EPA approved cleaner effective against COVID-19. If riding the bus, make efforts to practice social distancing as much as possible.
