Seatbelt Reminder

Recent, tragic events in Cedar Rapids should be a reminder to us all.  No matter how short the trip, please buckle your seatbelt.  It only takes a second!

Training Program Update

The vendor that provides our on-line vehicle training has merged with another company and together they will be updating our training offerings.   That means that our old system will be retired.  If you have not completed the training you have been assigned, please do so ASAP.  The change over to the new system will happen at the end of the day on May 15.  The system will be unavailable over that weekend and then will be fully operational on Monday, May 18.  Below are some points to remember:

  • If you are in the middle of a training program during the switch-over, you will need to start all over after the upgrade.
  • If you have been registered for training and have not completed it, you will be sent the information to the new system with new log-in credentials.  You will need to start the new class from the beginning.
  • It will be much easier to print off the certificate for your proof of training.

Trailer Training Update

As a part of the vendor’s new program offerings we will be moving the trailer training from ICON to the new system.  The cost for this training program will be $6 per person.  The training is still very high quality and it will be easier to manage since all training is administered from one place.  You will register for this training the same way as you do for the Defensive Driving and the 15-passenger van training.  You can still take the free trailer training on ICON but it must be completed by midnight on Sunday, May 17.

Saturdays Are Coming to an End!

You will still have both of your weekend days, but very soon you will not be able to stop by our office.  Our last open Saturday is May 2.  If you need a vehicle over the weekend after May 2nd, you will be able to pick it up on Friday, after 4pm and not have the charges start until your trip actually begins.  Just put the day and time your trip begins in the remarks field of the requisition.

Rental Reservations Reminder Feature

We have had a rash of vehicle reservations that have not been picked up at their scheduled times.  When we investigate, we have been told they forgot about the reservation and didn’t need the vehicle anymore.  By this time we have brought over Enterprise vehicles so we have to charge for the vehicle that was not picked up.  Please use the reminder feature on the Fleet Services Requisition.  This feature will send you an e-mail at noon the day before your pick-up as a reminder.  Remember, if you cancel your reservation 2 hours or more before pick-up there is no charge!!

Honest Mikes Used Cars

Our vehicle sales for the season have begun in earnest.  We sold seven vehicles on Thursday 4/22.  Four more (two Toyota Prius’, a Dodge Grand Caravan and a Ford F250 4X4 pick-up)  were delivered to Surplus on 4/24 and should be on sale soon.  Here is a link to the Surplus ebay site where the vehicles will be sold:  http://stores.ebay.com/University-of-Iowa-Surplus

Clones Are Not Identical

Just a reminder, when you clone a Fleet Services requisition, you will need to re-enter the driver’s license information for each driver.

Fleet Services Factoid

The University has more white vehicles than any other color.
