New Fleet Services Website!!
As I have mentioned in the past our department has been working on a website redesign. On Tuesday, December 16 our new website will go live!!! The design is vastly improved and it should be easier for you to answer your questions. The new address is: http://transportation.uiowa.edu/university-vehicles
For a short time period, you will be redirected to the new site if you use a bookmark for the old site. So, it would be a good idea to change your bookmark now so you don’t have a problem finding our site in the future. Please let me know if you have any comments or there is something you are looking for that you can’t find.

Did you know that proper seat positioning in your vehicle is one of the most important things you can do to maintain optimal steering control and visibility? According to a website article from Automotive Fleet, drivers should adjust the seat so they sit no closer than 10 inches to the steering wheel and can see the road ahead. Shorter drivers may need an extra cushion to provide the optimal sight-line of 3 inches above the top of the steering wheel. Drivers should also be able to operate the pedals with the balls of their feet without needing to stretch their leg or reach excessively with their feet. Check out this AAA video on proper seat and steering wheel positioning.
I Can See Clearly Now…
It is ice scraping season again. When you clean your windows, please scrape the entire window; front and back as well as sides. It is much easier to see traffic if you can see in all directions from the driver’s seat. Also, remember to turn your headlights on (low-beam setting) when there is fog. It makes you much easier to see.
Don’t Be Sandbagging Me!!
Remember in the way back when, your dad used to put a sand bag in the truck of your car for better winter traction? If you still do this, it may not be helping your traction and it will definitely be hurting your fuel economy. Most vehicles are front-wheel drive, which means the wheels that power the vehicle are in the front. The weight of the engine provides plenty of traction help, and extra weight in the trunk only cuts down on your MPGs. If you do have a rear-wheel drive vehicle the sand may help. But never, keep the sand in the passenger compartment. If you are in an accident, the last thing you want is a 75# bag of sand bouncing around.
Call to Reserve Your Loaner
If your vehicle is scheduled for maintenance or accident repair and you will need a loaner please call our office to reserve one. That way we can make sure you get the vehicle type that best meets your needs.
