Accident Reports Need to Be Submitted Within Two Business Days

Please remember that vehicle accident reports must be submitted within two business days (per the University Operations Manual) of the accident occurring.  This timeframe allows for appropriate accident investigations to be completed and ensures that insurance claims can be submitted in a timely manner.

Any repairs for unreported damage to University vehicles can be billed back to the department up to a maximum of $1,000.

Welcome to Allison

We have a new staff member in our shop.  Her name is Allison and her first day with Fleet Services was on January 3.  Allison is our Service Writer, meaning that she will probably be the person you talk to when your contact our shop.  Her responsibilities include customer service, ordering parts for our Technicians, and maintaining our shop parts inventory.  Welcome aboard Allison!!

Saturday Hours

Our Saturday hours will resume Saturday, January 26.  We will be open from 8 am to 11 am.  We will be open on Saturdays for the rest of Spring Semester when there is class on the Friday before the weekend and class on the Monday after the weekend.  We will not be open on Saturday, March 16 or Saturday, March 23.  These are the Saturday’s of Spring Break.

Honest Mike’s Used Cars

It is a little bit unusual for this time of year, but we still have some vehicles available for sale.  Currently up for auction, we have a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan (76,711 miles), a 2013 Chevrolet Impala (87,337 miles) and a 2014 Ford Taurus (93,336 miles).   All of those auctions end on Friday, January 18th.  Joining them soon will be a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan (73,686 miles).

If you are interested in any of these vehicles, you can find out more information or make a bid by going to Surplus’ eBay page.

Don’t Crowd the Plow

This winter, remember to share the road with snowplows. When you see a plow ahead of you on the road follow these tips:

  • drive slowly
  • give them room and stay back at least 200 feet
  • be prepared to stop
  • don’t pass them on the right
  • keep in mind that passing plows is risky

Road conditions will always be safer behind the plow equipment. If you have to pass a snowplow: reduce your speed, allow for extra room, only pass on the left, and be prepared for salt and sand to bounce off your vehicle.

Spring Break Vehicle Reservations

Spring break will be here before we know it and we have already received some vehicle requests. If your department or group is planning on going somewhere over break and you need a vehicle, it is never too early to submit the requisition or get non-employee students approved to drive. Another thing to keep in mind is whether you will be hauling a trailer. The SUV’s available to haul trailers go quickly and they are first come, first serve. Don’t wait until the last minute, reserve yours today!

Fleet Factoid

Did you know that there is only one domestic manufacturer currently producing a mass-market sedan?  That’s right, no more Ford Taurus or Focus, no more Chevrolet Impala, no more Chrysler 200 or Dodge Dart.  Only the Chevrolet Malibu is left.
