Accessible Vehicle Now Available!!

Fleet Services now has a vehicle available for rent with wheel chair access.  If you have a staff member, student or guest in a wheel chair we now have an option.  The vehicle has an internal, powered ramp and securement points inside the van to allow persons to be transported safely.

If you need to reserve this vehicle, you can use our standard Fleet Services requisition available in Self-Service.  For the vehicle type, select “Minivan” and in the comments please note that you would like the accessible vehicle.  The rate for the accessible vehicle is the same as the rate for a minivan.

Additionally, please allow approximately 30 minutes prior to your departure time for some training on how to use the van.

Valuable, Vehicle Related Web Sites

As a Fleet Manager, one of my responsibilities is to maintain my knowledge of fleet related topics.  To do this, I have several “go-to” websites I use to keep up-to-date.  Below is a list of some of my favorites:

Used car pricing: kbb.com

MPG, alternatively fueled vehicles:  fueleconomy.gov

Vehicle news, new car info:  autoblog.com

Vehicle recall information:  recalls.gov

Dictionary of automotive terms: motorera.com

Electric vehicle information:  electricdrive.org

University rules, Fleet Services info: Fleet Services Page

NOAA historical weather for Iowa City:  Weather.gov

Iowa Road Conditions: 511ia.org

Spring Cleaning

Now would be a good time for you to do a little spring cleaning on your vehicle.  Remember we have free cleaning supplies, and a vacuum cleaner available for your use.  They are located by our office.

What is Your Inventory Story??

As well as cleaning the inside of your vehicle, now may be a good time to do an inventory and make sure that you have everything in your vehicle that you should have.  Not sure what should be in your vehicle?  Here is the list:

  • a yellow accident envelope (inside the envelope should be a Regents Accident Report, a DOT Accident Report and a letter from Risk Management that says we are self-insured)
  •  a fuel credit card (if one was issued to your vehicle)
  • a blue and white roadside assistance card
  • a vehicle registration form
  • an ice scraper
  • a safety kit, this should be in the trunk

If you are missing any of those items, please let us know and we will get you a replacement.

Reminder Feature

When you are completing a requisition for a rental vehicle there is a check box that says, “I would like a reminder sent to all contacts & drivers at noon the day prior to the reservation.”  If you check this box then the day before your scheduled pick-up you will be sent a reminder. This is very helpful to confirm that you have made a reservation and it also reminds you of the pick up time.

Fleet Services Factoid

We have taken delivery of four more 100% electric vehicles bringing our total on campus to eight.  Adding in our five 100% electric utility vehicles that are road licensed, we now have a total of 13 battery powered vehicles on our campus!
