License Check Clarification

This is a clarification to the October Fleet Services Newsletter.  Fleet Services would like to simplify the current driver’s license review process but it is only in the discussion stage.  No actual changes to the process are scheduled to be implemented at this time.

Please accept my apologies if the article in my newsletter created any confusion.

Fleet Services Holiday Hours

As the break period approaches, we wanted to let you know about our operational hours during these times.

Fleet Services will be closed on the following days:

Saturday, November 21

Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 26-28

Saturday, December 12 and 19

Thursday, Friday and Saturday December 24-26

Friday and Saturday, January 1-2

Saturday, January 9 and 16

Monday, January 18.

We will be closing at 5 pm December 28 – December 31.

If you will need a vehicle during a time we are not open, you may pick up the vehicle up to two (2) hours before closing, on the last business day before your trip begins, and the charges will not begin until your trip begins.  Please note in the “Remarks/Notes”  field when the charges should begin.  If you have any questions, please call our office at (319) 384-0564.

Need to Add A Vehicle for Your Department?

New vehicle orders will be placed in December so if your department needs to add a vehicle, please call Mike at (319) 335-5088 to discuss what you need.

Sale Vehicles

We still have vehicles that we will be selling through Surplus in the next couple of weeks.  We will be selling two mini-vans and two small box trucks.  If you are interested in any of these vehicles, please watch the UI Surplus ebay webpage.  Surplus will also have copies of the maintenance records for you to review if you wish.  We would also be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Winter Blend Diesel Fuel

For those of you who use diesel fuel in your University vehicles, we have switched to winter blend diesel.  The winter blend should ease starting concerns on those cold mornings.  We also include an additive to ensure the fuel does not gel up in the fuel lines.   We are also still using 5% bio fuel!

I Can See Clearly Now…

It is ice scraping season again!  When you clean your windows, please scrape the entire window; front and back as well as sides.   It is much easier to see traffic if you can see in all directions from the driver’s seat.  Also, remember to turn your headlights on (low-beam setting) when there is fog.  It makes you much easier to see.

Website Updates

One of my projects over the winter break will be to do some updates to our website.  Please let me know if there is something you would like to see on our website or if there is something we can move to make it easier for you to find.  The link to our website is in the Fleet Services info below.

Fleet Services Factoid

You may have noticed a theme in a couple of the above articles.  Winter is almost here.  AAA has posted some winter driving tips on their website.
