CAMBUS announces Camille M. as the CAMBUS Driver of the Year 2017 – 2018. The Iowa Public Transit Association award honors transit drivers across the state who are committed to providing safe and friendly service. In the nomination CAMBUS supervisors and management stated, “Camille exceeded both the criteria for this award and the strict safety and performance expectations of CAMBUS. She has proven to be one of our most reliable employees and has earned other special recognitions for her commitment. Camille fosters a positive environment for both employees and our customers.”
On average, 160 student-employees operate our campus transit service. Their responsibilities begin with driving but can grow to include training, dispatching, assisting with maintenance, and supervising.
Camille M. has been employed at CAMBUS since March 2016 and is a very busy student double majoring in Biology (genetics and biotechnology track) and Informatics (Bioinformatics track). “The flexible schedule has allowed me to do research in the Cornell lab, participate in the Hawkeye Marching Band, and manage a full class load,” says Camille, “all while working enough hours at CAMBUS to make paying for school and living expenses manageable.”
Q: What did you think when you were told you were the recipient?
I was surprised because I know I work with a lot talented people.
Q: What is the best part of working at CAMBUS?
The flexibility of CAMBUS and the amazing coworkers are the best part of work at CAMBUS.
Q: What skills have you developed working at CAMBUS?
I think I have developed my communications skills through interacting with other CAMBUS employees, students, and the public. My ability to think on my feet has improved too because I always want to have quick, concise, and accurate answers when asked about routes and locations.
