Kinnick Stadium North End Zone project traffic and transit impacts

November 19, 2017

Renovation will begin on Kinnick Stadium’s North End Zone Sunday, November 19 and is scheduled to last until the summer of 2019. Construction will affect nearby streets, pedestrian routes, and CAMBUS service.

The Kinnick Stadium north end zone project requires closing Evashevski Drive between Lot 43 N Drive and Hawkins Drive. Persons wishing to use Hospital Parking Ramp 3 must enter and exit via Hawkins Drive. A temporary traffic light has been installed at the intersection of Melrose Avenue and Evashevski Drive due to the anticipated increase in traffic at this intersection.

The construction zone will close the street level pedestrian connection between West Campus Transportation Center and the Evashevski Drive / Hawkins Drive intersection. All pedestrians will need to use the skywalk between WCTC and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics to cross through the construction zone.  The Hospital Parking Ramp 3 stairs or elevator will remain open at all times during construction and will provide access to the street level.

Many CAMBUS routes will be rerouted to approach WCTC via the intersection of Melrose Avenue and Evashevski Drive instead of Melrose Avenue and Hawkins Drive. Some stall assignments have also changed to accommodate bus maneuvers during the construction. The diagram lists the stall assignments that will be effective as of Monday, November 20. Please be sure to read the signs of the bus you are boarding to ensure you’re boarding the route you intend to take.
