The Employee Van Pool program, managed by the University of Iowa's Parking and Transportation Department, is proud to celebrate its 40th year of service. Established in 1978 following rising fuel prices and shortages, the commuter service began with 48 members and has since provided service for over 8,200 University of Iowa faculty and staff. Members most frequently join to save money, improve their commute, and reduce their environmental impact.

"Commuter Programs offers and supports a variety of services to reduce parking demand and traffic congestion," says Michelle Ribble, Commuter Programs manager. "We're very proud of this program, thankful for our members and advocates, and hopeful this program will continue to grown in popularity for decades to come," Ribble continued.

The member-driven Employee Van Pool program is one of the longest running of its kind. The program leases university owned vans and provides them to groups of faculty and staff for the purpose of getting them to and from work. Passenger members pay a low monthly fare, while one of the members volunteers to be primary driver in exchange for riding for no-fare.
