Sorry We Lied, Real ID Delayed Again

Remember how last month we told you that the effective date for Real ID was set for May 3, 2023 and that it was really going to happen this time? I swear that at the time we sent out the November newsletter that was true. Well wouldn’t you know it, just days after we sent it out they decided to push the date again, this time to May 7, 2025. Will it happen in 2025? Who knows, your guess is as good as ours.

It’s a Sure Thing!

Whenever Fleet Services receives a vehicle requisition, a confirmation email is sent back to you telling you the reservation number assigned to your request. This ensures you that a vehicle will be waiting for you when you come for pick-up. Please make sure that you have received this confirmation email before your pickup date. If you have not received it, your requisition may still be going through the approval process in your department. Call Fleet Services at 335-5101 if you have any questions about your requisition.

Fleet Factoid

According to Kelly Blue Book, the average new car sold in November cost $48,681, setting a new record. The price was $422 higher than in October and $2,250 higher than one year ago. According to KBB calculations, the average buyer has paid more than the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) every month since July 2021. Read the full article from Kelly Blue Book.

Sedan Swap Season Came Early this Year

Our 2023 sedans are here early this year and we have started the process of getting them swapped into the fleet. Please remember to clean out your vehicle prior to swapping, we have vacuums and cleaning supplies available for this purpose at the Fleet Services Office.

Hit the Road with Confidence this Winter

As the snow starts to fall and the temperature drops, it's time to dust off those winter driving skills and hit the roads. But before you do, there are a few important safety tips to keep in mind.

  • First and foremost, make sure your car is ready for the cold weather. This means checking your tires, wiper blades, and antifreeze levels. You should also pack an emergency kit in case you get stranded, including a shovel, blanket, and snacks.
  • Once your car is prepped, take a deep breath, and remember, slow and steady wins the race. No matter how much of a rush you're in, there's no need to speed on snowy roads. In fact, it's just asking for trouble. And speaking of trouble, avoid any sudden movements, like sudden braking or sharp turns. This can cause you to lose control of your car, which is never a good thing.

Now it’s time to put on your winter driving hat, grab your emergency kit, and hit the roads with confidence. Just imagine the looks on the faces of other drivers as you glide past them, effortlessly navigating the slippery roads like a pro. And when you finally make it to your destination, you can proudly proclaim: "I survived winter driving and all I got was this lousy t-shirt." Okay, maybe that's not so funny, but you get the point. ***Fun Fact, we usually include an article about winter driving every year. This time we asked ChatGPT, an AI chat bot to write a funny article about winter driving and this is what it came up with; would you have been able to tell?
