Rider Information and Policies

Cleaning Practices

CAMBUS has updated cleaning and disinfecting practices in coordination with guidance from the CDC and FTA.

  • Buses are disinfected and cleaned at least once a day and are deep cleaned once a week. This process includes disinfecting of all surfaces and cleaning air filters in the HVAC system.
  • Buses receive a UV light treatment to kill bacteria and viruses every 48 hours. The UV light treatment has been proven to be effective against the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

Riders requirements

  • Riders should enter through the front doors and exit through the back doors to limit face-to-face encounters.
  • Per Federal law, riders are required to wear a face mask while boarding, exiting, and riding on a CAMBUS. Riders are also required to wear a face mask while waiting at bus stops.

Other prevention measures

  • Riders are encouraged to follow everyday CDC recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
  • Riders are encouraged to disperse throughout the bus to maintain distancing as much as possible.
  • Riders are asked to use transportation for essential trips only and to consider walking for short trips when possible.
  • CAMBUS is providing increased service to Parking Lot 65, Finkbine Commuter and Parking Lot 85, Hawkeye Commuter during the morning and evening commute. Increasing the frequency of departures allows riders to choose to wait for the next bus. Riders are encouraged to arrive at the commuter parking lots during non-busy times when possible to further disperse riders amongst available bus service. Busy commuting times include 6:35am-6:45am and 7:35am-7:45am.

Operating Safely

  • Drivers are required to wear a face mask while operating a bus.
  • Driver barriers have been installed to reduce exposure between operators and riders.

Route and Schedule Modifications

  • CAMBUS is operating modified levels of service to best meet the needs of the University of Iowa and UI Hospitals & Clinics. The most up-to-date service information can be found on our website: CAMBUS route and schedule information.
  • CAMBUS evaluates boarding and trip data to determine necessary modifications to service. Service modifications are announced via our website and the mobile app, Transit.
