Bicycle Locker User Requirements
Permit holders must register the bicycle or e-mobility device using the bicycle locker with Parking and Transportation. Register here
It is the permit holder’s responsibility to provide his/her own padlock, to ensure the locker is locked at all times regardless of use, and to report any damage or malfunction of the locker.
Only one bicycle or e-mobility device and related equipment (helmet, pump, lock, rain gear, etc.) may be stored in the assigned locker. Storage of non-bicycle or e-mobility device related equipment in these lockers is prohibited.
Permit holders shall not permit another person to store a bicycle, e-mobility device or any other article in their assigned locker.
As a condition for using a locker, the permit holder waives any claims to the right of privacy and consents to authorized University of Iowa or University of Iowa Campus Safety personnel opening and inspecting the bicycle locker and its contents at any time without prior notice.
Parking and Transportation reserves the right to ask that all contents be removed for maintenance with 24-hour notice.
There is no insurance coverage provided with bicycle locker use. The University of Iowa is not responsible for fire, theft, loss or damage to any items left in lockers, and is not liable for any injury, loss or damage arising from the use of any assigned lockers.
The bicycle locker permit rate is $5.00/month. Permit holders are responsible for charges until the permit expires or they request cancellation.
Permanent, full-time employees 50% or greater paid monthly are eligible for Payroll Deduction. Employees eligible for payroll deduction will have their monthly bicycle locker permit deducted after-tax.
Parking payroll deductions are assessed one month after actual parking usage. For example, if you receive your virtual permit for a bicycle locker on August 5th, your deduction will be on your September 1st check. If you get your virtual permit on or after August 16th, two months deduction will go on your October 1st check.
Graduate student bicycle locker permits are billed semesterly. The first installment is billed at the time of purchase, typically in August, the second in January and the third in June.
Bicycle locker fees may be prepaid yearly. If prepaying, yearly fees will be due August 1st each year or when the user accepts a wait list offer for a bicycle locker permit.
Changes to bicycle or e-mobility device description, ownership, and permit cancelations are the responsibility of the employee and student.
To cancel a bicycle locker permit, please notify Parking and Transportation in writing with the date you will vacate. Parking and Transportation will contact the permit holder to arrange a padlock exchange. Permit holders can cancel the permit at any time for a prorated refund if applicable.
A Bicycle locker permit may be terminated if the bicycle locker permit holder is:
no longer a University of Iowa faculty, staff, or graduate student
in default of the permit fee
if items other than those previously noted are stored in the locker or
if locker is left unlocked regardless of being used or not.
Upon termination, the university has the right to immediately take possession of the locker and any other contents, and the right to sell or otherwise dispose of those contents immediately, except when prohibited by state code.
