Secure bicycle parking permits are now available for purchase at Hawkeye Parking Ramp. The enclosed bike parking at the ramp offers secure storage for up to 50 bicycles with access permissions provided by university ID cards. This storage option is intended to provide extra security and weather protection.
“We are excited about offering secure bike parking options across campus to help bicycle commuters feel extra comfortable when leaving their bikes on campus for extended hours,” says Michelle Ribble, Commuter Programs Manager.
Secure bike parking is available to University of Iowa faculty and staff with a valid HawkID. Access is limited, and permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Graduate students may also be issued a secure bicycle parking permit based on availability.
Secure bike parking
Since installing the first set of bike lockers in Newton Road Ramp in 2024, Commuter Programs has continued expanding its secure bike parking options. Lockers were also installed at Dodge Street Ramp near Medical Center Downtown.
Both locker and enclosed parking options offer cyclists a reliable, protected space to store their bikes. The Hawkeye Parking Ramp cages expands these options by providing shared, keycard access parking right next to the UI Health Care main campus.
How to join a waitlist
Secure bicycle parking is assigned from waitlists in the online Parking Portal. UI faculty and staff employed 50% of the time or more in a permanent position can log into the portal and add their name to a waitlist. UI graduate students may also add their name to waitlists and be assigned a secure bicycle space based on availability.
Before using secure bicycle parking spaces, users must register their bike with Bike Index.
