University of Iowa and the City of Iowa City rolled out a mobile payment option on May 15, 2017 to allow drivers to pay for parking using smartphones, tablets or any other electronic device.

“This is a win-win,” says Jim Sayre, associate director of UI Parking and Transportation. “Not only will this make parking easier for our campus and community, it will give us real-time, historical data that can help with future planning. It also will open new opportunities to communicate about important announcements like holiday hours or space closures.”

Download the app from the Apple App Store, Android Google Play, or visit ppprk.com. Next create an account, select a pin number, and enter your credit card information.

To pay for parking enter the parking zone and space number, which can be found on signage near the parking space or on the meter. The app can be used wherever PassportParking signs are displayed, including more than 2,000 on and off-street City spaces and more than 800 university spaces.

The parking meter itself will not display payments made through the app. Instead the mobile payment system feeds information in real-time to both city and university staff so payment can be verified. Users can also set an expiration alert and extend time remotely, up to the maximum allotted time, if necessary.
