New Bicycle Repair Station at College of Medicine
October 10, 2016
A new bicycle repair station is available at the College of Medicine. Repair stations make it easier for bicyclists to stay on the road by providing tools to perform basic fixes. Located on the south side of the Eckstein Medical Research Building near the bike racks, the College of Medicine location is the fourth repair station to be installed on campus. The other three are located near the Becker Communications Studies Building, Boyd Law Building, and Hospital Parking Ramp 4.
Many UI students, faculty, and staff rely on bicycling to and from campus as an affordable and healthy means of transportation. Conversations between Rebecca Waltman, College of Medicine facilities planning and management director, and Michelle Ribble, Parking and Transportation commuter programs manager, identified the need for a repair station near the College of Medicine. Parking and Transportation maintenance workers completed installation on October 5, 2016.
Repair stations feature a stand to mount a bicycle and have wrenches, screwdrivers, tire levers, and tire pumps to help with basic repairs and maintenance. The stations are free to use and have a Quick Read (QR) code on the front of the station to view repair instructions on your phone to help with repairs.
