Winter weather operations

CAMBUS will maintain service during and after inclement weather within reasonable and safe practices. During and after snow and ice events, CAMBUS routes may run late. Riders are encouraged to plan for extra travel time and and take an earlier bus when possible.

CAMBUS will announce service modifications and disruptions via the mobile app, Transit. When possible, alerts will be posted to social media accounts (Facebook and Twitter: @uiowacambus, Instagram: @uiowaparktransit) and the department website.

CAMBUS snow detours

CAMBUS vehicles may be unable to travel on some roads during ice or snow events. In these cases, CAMBUS routes will detour.

Below are the most common snow/ice detours for CAMBUS routes. Other roads and service areas may also require service modifications.

CAMBUS winter tips

Extra travel time

Plan for extra travel time. With inclement weather and snow/ice conditions, drivers will slow down to operate safely. Buses may run behind schedule.

location pin in gold with black outline

Be ready

Riders should be at the bus stop before the bus arrives to ensure boarding. Buses operate on a schedule and will depart from the stop immediately if it is after their departure time. Due to the large size of the bus, it is not always possible for drivers to see riders waiting in buildings or vehicles.

Use Transit

Use the Transit mobile app to get real-time information about your bus. We recommend using the live map feature to determine when to be at the bus stop. Riders should also favorite the routes they ride to receive service alerts.

Snow and ice at bus stops

Campus maintenance teams do their best to remove snow and ice from bus stop as soon as possible after winter weather events. If a stop is not cleared, notify us at 319-335-8633 or email cambus-transit@uiowa.edu and we'll contact the appropriate team to clear the stop.

Transit

Riders are encouraged to use the mobile app Transit to plan trips, get real-time departure information, live bus locations, service alerts and more.  Download Transit to your Apple or Android smart device.

Accessibility

The Parking and Transportation Department is committed to promoting campus accessibility through mobility solutions for all students, staff, faculty, and visitors.  In addition to fixed-route bus services, CAMBUS also operates a door-to-door paratransit bus service, called "Bionic Bus".
