Construction of the Hawkeye Ramp will begin the week of May 29. The ramp is one of many projects related to the University of Iowa’s 10-year facilities master plan and will be constructed on an existing parking lot north of the West Camp Transportation Center. The remaining surface parking north of the construction site – previously Parking Lot 43 – is being defined as a new parking lot for faculty and staff, Lot 52.

After the new ramp’s anticipated completion in 2025, Hospital Parking Ramp 1 will be removed to make way for construction of the new UI Hospitals & Clinics inpatient tower. The projects outlined in the 10-year facilities master plan will modernize the delivery of education and patient care and will benefit patients, faculty, staff, and students.

Revised Parking Lots

The change to define the parking area as a new lot is necessary to help manage use of this parking area and provide relevant construction and access updates to permit holders. Permit holders were reassigned from Parking Lot 43 to Parking Lot 52 based upon seniority and notified by email and US postal mail.

Allow extra travel time

As always, motorists should use caution near construction areas and follow posted signage. Patients and visitors of UI Dental Clinic and UI Hospitals & Clinics should anticipate some delays and allow extra travel time.

Alerts related to traffic and other construction impacts will be added to the Parking and Transportation website as needed. They can be viewed on the Alerts or West Campus Construction pages.
