Do You Want to End the Lease of an Assigned Vehicle?

It may be possible to end the lease of your vehicle before the end of its life if we can transfer your vehicle to another customer. To discuss this opportunity, Mike needs to hear from you ASAP. He begins ordering new vehicles in November, so he needs to make any lease changes before new vehicles are ordered. If you wish to discuss your vehicle lease, please call Mike at (319) 384-0564.

Student Vehicle Safety Inspection

To help students driving long distances over break, Fleet Services will offer students free vehicle safety inspections on November 18 and 19 from 3pm-5pm. The inspections will be on a first-come, first-served basis. We’ll let you know of safety related issues so they can be repaired before traveling.

We’ll start the inspections on the west side (nearest the river) of the CAMBUS Maintenance Facility. Prior to the inspection, a short waiver form will need to be completed. We’ll check the vehicle’s tire tread depth, tire condition and inflation, lights, horn, coolant, engine oil, transmission fluid levels, windshield wipers, washer fluid and other systems that affect the safety of the vehicle.

Vehicle Experts at Your Service!

Did you know that all Fleet Services technicians are ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certified? That means they must pass written tests to demonstrate their knowledge. Each of our technicians must pass exams in five light-duty areas (suspension and steering, brakes, electrical/electronic systems, heating and air conditioning, and engine performance), and five heavy duty/transit areas (diesel engines, brakes, suspension/steering, electrical/electronic systems, heating and air conditioning). That means you can have confidence that our vehicles are safely maintained and will be fixed right the first time. We are also proud to say that three of our technicians are certified as ASE Master Technicians.

It's Time to Get Real

Real ID is coming. Beginning in October of 2020 a standard driver’s license will no longer suffice to board aircraft, enter Federal buildings requiring ID, or to enter nuclear power facilities. You must have a Real ID driver’s license or other acceptable identity document (passport, passport card, trusted traveler program card, permanent resident card, etc.). You can tell if you have a Real ID Iowa license by looking in the top, right hand corner of your driver’s license. If you have a star in a gold circle, then you are good to go. You can get your Real ID driver’s license at a DOT Driver’s License renewal station. You’ll need documentation of your birth date, social security number and residential address. Typically, those documents are a valid passport, a Social Security Card, and a voter registration card. Other documents may also qualify. Once you present those documents and pay a small fee, you can obtain a new license with the Real ID logo. View Iowa Real ID information.

November is Number 1!!

Did you know that animal strike collisions are highest in November? That is according to an article in Automotive Fleet Magazine. The data comes from a claims analysis done by the Highway Loss Data Institute. West Virginia is first with three times the national average of animal strike collisions, with Iowa at number two with 31.8 claims per 1,000 insured vehicle years. To minimize the chances of an animal strike slow down, watch for warning signs, be very vigilant at dawn and dusk, use high-beams when possible, watch the sides of the road and look for “eye shine” (light reflected from the animals eye).

Fleet Factoid

The next time you are in your vehicle, take a look at your gas gauge. Look for a small arrow, pointing either to the left of the right. That arrow is pointing you toward the side of the vehicle where the fuel fill is.
