Importance of Preventative Maintenance

If you or your staff look in the upper left-hand corner of your University vehicle’s windshield, you will see a little tag with a date and odometer reading. That is when that particular vehicle is due for its next oil change. It is very important that the vehicle is seen in our shop on or before that date or odometer reading. First, oil changes need to be performed in order to maintain the warranty coverage. Warranty claims have been rejected because the required preventative maintenance have not been performed. Additionally, just as important as the oil change, is the safety inspection we do. Every time we perform an oil change, we check the lights, brakes, mirrors, windshield and other safety items to make sure our vehicles are as safe as possible.

When your vehicle is approaching either the date or odometer reading where the oil change is due, please call Allison at (319) 335-5105 to schedule the oil change when it is convenient for you.

You Have Probably Figured This Out By Now

Every Fleet Services vehicle is provided with a snow brush. Sometimes it is in the back seat, under the seat, or in the trunk. However, if you cannot find it, please stop by our office and we’ll give you a new one. The same goes for the safety kit. Those are generally in a circular bag and located in the trunk.

Driving Assignments in the Driver’s License Review System

  • Some individuals should have multiple driving assignments in the Driver License Review System. In instances where an individual drives for more than one department, each department should submit their own driving assignment.
  • All drivers are classified as “Required to Drive” or “Not Required to Drive” in the Driver License Review System. If an individual is “Required to Drive” this means that it’s an essential job function. In other words, they will lose their job if they are unable to drive. If the individual’s employment is NOT contingent on them being able to drive, then they should be categorized as “Not Required to Drive.”

Fix For Back-up Alarm in Suburbans

Beep, beep, beep! Sound familiar? Well if you have ever used one of our Suburbans you have probably heard that sound at unexpected times seemingly for no reason at all. The good news is our techs at the shop have figured out a way to re-wire the beeper so it only beeps when the vehicle is running and in reverse gear rather than any time the reverse lights come on. If you lease a Suburban, we will apply this solution at the time of your next scheduled oil change (due to shop activity we will not be able to perform this repair until your next oil change is due).

Spring Break Reservations

Just a reminder that if you need a vehicle on or around Spring Break, get your reservation in as soon as possible, especially if you need a minivan, SUV or need to pull a trailer. It is our busiest single week of the year, as long as we have the time to plan we will be able to get you what you need.

Vehicle Maintenance Drop Off

Just a reminder that when bringing a vehicle to the shop for service please park it in the service area west of the building along the fence (by the river) and come inside. Don’t leave the vehicle on the east side or near/blocking any of the garage doors.

The #1 Car Color in the World is...

According to an article in WardsAuto, the number one car color in the world is white. In North America white, black, silver and gray make up 77% of the market. The article also discusses why manufacturers use Midnight Marauder Pearl-coat as a color instead of dark blue. The article also discusses why you seldom see purple or pink cars.
