New School Year, Same Reminders….

Now is the time to get your vehicle reservations in, license reviews checked, and students registered for driver training. Driver training registration forms are located on our website and can be easily sent to us via email. You can check out the full University Driving Policy for more information.

Now is also a good time to get those department vehicles cleaned and whipped into shape, especially any vehicle that may have been sitting un-used for a long period of time. We have vacuums and cleaning supplies at our office available for use, as well as car wash coupons.

Driver’s License Review System

Anyone who needs to drive a vehicle for University business must have their driving record reviewed by Risk Management. This is the time of year that many new staff members, both student and full-time, are hired. If your new staff members may possibly drive a University vehicle, make sure you get these new drivers registered in the University’s Driver’s License Review System. This system is accessed through Employee Self-Service in the General Systems & Tools section, in the UI Systems box. If you do not have access to this system, your departmental HR person will.

Training Explaining

In addition to the required license review, some drivers may need to complete additional training. Here is a refresher on the training required to use our vehicles. Please do not wait until the last minute to set up required training. The courses have fees associated with them so an Interdepartmental Requisition signed by two people is required before anyone can be enrolled.

  • Employees: No training is required unless 15-passenger vans will be driven, or a trailer will be pulled with a daily rental vehicle.
  • Students: If students are driving within the scope of their job responsibilities no training is required. Otherwise, all students must complete the Defensive Driving Online Course. This training is required regardless of the type of vehicle driven.
  • Trailer: Everyone who plans to pull a trailer with a vehicle from the rental fleet must complete a short online course.
  • 15 Pass Vans: Everyone who plans to drive this type of vehicle must complete both an online course and an in-person familiarization drive with Fleet Services. (Just a reminder, we are phasing these out, there are currently only a couple left in the University fleet).

In addition to any required training, Fleet Services offers an extensive catalog of online courses covering topics like EcoDriving Techniques, Parking Lot Safety, and Emotions and Driving. For more details, check out a full list of courses on our website.

Yes, We are Open for Rentals!

Daily rental operations are up and running, vehicles can be requested using the Fleet Services requisition found through Employee Self Service (under General Systems and Tools). In order to minimize risk, we have adopted a number of new practices that reflect guidance from the CDC and the University’s Administration. The full details of our car cleaning and disinfectant procedures, vehicle pickup, and customer distancing procedures can be found on our website.
