Vehicle Maintenance Drop Off / Pick-up Procedure

Our number one goal is to ensure the safety of our customers and staff. With that in mind we have switched up our procedures to provide contactless pick up and drop off for vehicles receiving maintenance or repairs. Here is the process:

When you arrive at the shop, park your vehicle in the parking spaces just west of the building, next to the fence along the river.

Once the vehicle is parked, lock the doors, and call our office (319-335-5105) to let us know your vehicle has been delivered. Our normal hours are 7:30 am to 5:00 pm but if your call goes to voicemail, please leave a message.

After you make this call, take your keys with you. We will use our spare keys to work on your vehicle.

If your phone is not available, you may also stop by the office to let us know your vehicle has arrived. Please take your keys with you, we will use our spare set to work on your vehicle. Our office is the double wide mobile home north of where you parked your vehicle. If you arrive outside of business hours leave a note in our office drop box, next to the door, letting us know your vehicle is here for service. When your vehicle repair/service is completed our staff will call the Service Contact your department has provided to us.

At Fleet Services we always have our ear to the ground looking for tips and helpful information to pass on to our customers.

Next up is the NHTSA’s SaferCar app that automatically checks and alerts you to any recalls issued for your vehicle. Recalls are often safety related and can be difficult to keep track of, this app should make that task much simpler.

And finally, we wanted to share something interesting, the NHTSA has also unveiled a new tool to visually track where autonomous vehicle testing is occurring nationwide.

Best Practices - Cars and COVID

We thought it might be a good time to share some common-sense CDC recommendations to minimize risk when sharing a vehicle with another person. Firstly, try to limit the number of passengers in the vehicle to only those necessary. People riding in a car together should wear a face covering or shield and should attempt to social distance as much as possible. A face covering should also be worn if you are rolling down your window to interact with someone at a drive-thru or curbside pickup location. Remember, ventilation is your friend, leave the windows open as much as possible. Also, avoid using the recirculation setting on your climate control. Lastly, practice good hand hygiene, after leaving the vehicle use hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.

Inventory Time!!

For those customers who have vehicles that are permanently assigned, it is a good idea to occasionally check to see if everything that should be in the vehicle is there. Here is a list of things you should have in each of your assigned vehicles: ice scraper, yellow envelope with a Regents and DOT accident report forms, the vehicle registration, a self-insurance letter from Risk Management (Iowa is a proof of insurance State), a roadside assistance card, an owner’s manual, and you may have a fuel card unless your department keeps the card centrally. If your vehicle is missing any of these items, please let us know and we can get you a replacement.
