Returning Assigned Vehicles Early

We are in the process of ordering new vehicles for next year. This also gives us the opportunity to reassign vehicles within the Fleet. In certain cases, we may be able to reassign a vehicle from one department to another. So, if you are interested in ending a vehicle lease early, please contact Mike (335-5088) to discuss your options.

Website Redesign

We are just beginning the process of redesigning our website to make it more organized and user friendly. If there is information that you would like to see on our website, please let us know.

Vehicle Replacement Forms

As mentioned earlier, this is the time of year we start planning our new vehicle orders for the coming year. We recently emailed forms to the Administrative Contact for those vehicles scheduled to be replaced. Those forms are due back to Fleet Services on Friday, November 6. If you misplaced the forms and need another set, just let us know and we can email them to you. If you need to add a vehicle to your department, give us a call and we can help with that!

Importance of Preventative Maintenance

If you or your staff look at the upper left-hand corner of your University vehicle’s windshield, you will see a little tag with a date and odometer reading. That is when that vehicle is due for its next oil change. It is very important that the vehicle is seen in our shop on or before that date or odometer reading. First off, oil changes need to be performed to maintain the warranty coverage. Warranty claims have been rejected because the required preventative maintenance had not been performed. Additionally, just as important as the oil change, is the safety inspection we do. Every time we perform an oil change, we check the lights, brakes, mirrors, windshield, and other safety items to make sure our vehicles are as safe as possible.

When your vehicle is approaching either the date or odometer reading where the oil change is due, please call Allison at (319) 335-5105 to schedule the oil change when it is most convenient for you.

Under Pressure (to the tune of the Queen and David Bowie Song)

The leaves are changing, and the days are getting shorter; that means the cold is coming whether we are ready for it or not. Colder temperatures cause the volume of air in tires to decrease. Boyles law tells us that as the volume decreases, so does the air pressure in the tire, that is what causes your tire pressure light to go on. If you see this light on, fill the tire to the correct pressure, drive a couple of miles, and the light should go off. We have an air-hose available at the SW corner of the CAMBUS Maintenance building and there is a tire pressure gauge attached to the hose. Remember, the recommended tire PSI for a vehicle is on a sticker inside the driver’s door or in the owner’s manual. DO NOT USE THE TIRE PRESSURE PRINTED ON THE TIRE!

Fleet Factoid

If you think you can outrun the police in Dubai you are most certainly mistaken. The Dubai PD have a fleet of supercars including a Lamborghini Aventador and a $1.6 million Bugatti Veyron with a top speed of 247 mph. Check out the full article on Motor Biscuit.
