Need to Add A Vehicle for Your Department?

New vehicle orders are being planned and will be placed soon. That means that if your department is looking to add a vehicle we need to know by the end of December. Please call Mike at (319) 384-0564 to discuss what you need or if you have any other questions.

Thanksgiving Weekend Rentals

We will be closed on November 26th and 27th for Thanksgiving. If you need to pick up a vehicle for use over the holiday or before we open on Monday, November 30th, you can pick that vehicle up after 4pm on Wednesday, November 25th. The charges will not begin until you start your trip. Please tell us in the comments section when the trip will begin.

Holiday Hours

During the period between Christmas and January 15th, our office will be closing at 5pm. With the holidays fast approaching, please be aware of some modified office hours during this time.

  • The office is closed November 26th-27th, December 24th-25th, and January 1st.
  • Our office will be open from 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM December 27th through January 15th.
  • Closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 18th.
  • Regular hours will resume Tuesday, January 19th.

If you need a vehicle during a holiday closure, you may pick up the vehicle on the last business day before your trip begins, after 4:00 PM. Please make a note of when the charges should begin in the “Remarks/Notes” field when submitting the requisition.

Dirty Vehicles?

This is just a reminder about car washes. We currently have an arrangement with the Billion Automotive car wash located at Hwy 1 and Mormon Trek in Iowa City. Lease customers are provided one (1) wash pass per month at no cost. Any additional car wash passes used within the same month will be billed back to the department at $5 per wash. Stop by the Fleet Services trailer to get your pass. For interior cleaning, Fleet Services has vacuums available during normal business hours. We also provide a number of interior cleaning products such as upholstery cleaner, surface cleaner, dash protectant, and window washing at no charge for customer use.

Don’t Veer for Deer

Sound familiar? It should because we share this reminder every year. Swerving to avoid a deer at the last minute can cause you to lose control of the vehicle and end up doing more damage to yourself and passengers than actually hitting the deer. To assist you in avoiding deer, wash the inside of your windshield to avoid glare at sunset. Remember, if you see one deer, slow down, if mama has already crossed, her Bambi might panic and dash out in front of you. Stay vigilant and please pay extra attention this time of year.

Ice, Ice Scraper

We bring this up with a heavy heart, yes, ice scraper season upon us. With the bad news out of the way, we wanted to remind customers to check their vehicles to make sure they have an ice scraper ready to go. If there is not one in the vehicle, stop by our office and we will get you a new one.

Website Redesign

The Parking and Transportation Department (of which Fleet Services is a division) is in the initial stages of redesigning our web pages. If there is information that is not currently on our web page and you would like to see included, please let us know. Also, if there is existing information on our site that is too hard to get to or information that that you would like to see presented in a different way, please let us know that also.

Fleet Factoid

According to iSeeCars.com, used car prices were up 9.5% on average this October compared to October 2019. Likely driving this trend is increased demand from new drivers entering the market to avoid ride-sharing and public transport coupled with disruptions in manufacture and distribution of new vehicles on the supply side.
