The More Notice the Better

Over the last year and a half, like so many at the University, Fleet Services has had to be flexible to weather the storm. One direct result is a reduced rental fleet, and unfortunately, we can’t just snap our fingers and make more cars appear. Demand is picking up heading into the fall semester so get your requests submitted as early as possible to ensure you get the vehicles you require. If you have a special need, like pulling a trailer, get the request in as soon as possible to make sure we can have a vehicle available with a hitch. Having said all of this, we still anticipate being able to meet everyone’s needs but the more notice you can give us the better, surprises can be harder to accommodate.

Remote Rental Kiosk is Ready to Go!

We are very excited to announce that the Fleet Services Rental kiosk located inside Hospital Parking Ramp 2 (HPR2) is up and running. The new kiosk option provides a convenient and easy way for faculty and staff on the west side of campus to rent university vehicles and allows for 24/7 pick-up and return. The kiosk is located on Lower Level 1 of HPR2 inside the south elevator lobby, next to the Children’s Hospital discharge lobby.

How it works

  • When submitting a requisition for a vehicle, indicate that the pickup will be at ‘Hospital Ramp 2’ in the ‘Vehicle pick up location’ field. The pickup location field is just below where you specify the dates and times for the trip.
  • After the reservation is made, a confirmation email and a link to a tutorial video will be sent to the driver and the initiator of the requisition showing how to use the kiosk.

Differences

  • The kiosk offers customers the opportunity to save money by making partial day reservations. Rentals will be charged at a reduced rate for reservations not exceeding four (4) hours.
  • Customers will be asked to return the vehicle with a full tank of gas. You will be able to use our on-site fuel or a local fuel credit card. Due to the parking needs of hospital patients and their families, parking for personal vehicles is not available.

Driver Training Now Offered through ICON

Both the Defensive Driver Training and Towing and Trailer online courses are now offered through ICON. This should make the course a lot easier for enrollees to access and complete any necessary training. The cost is now $8.00 per course and enrollees will have 120 days to complete them. The process for requesting training remains the same, we need an interdepartmental requisition with two signatures and a completed driver participant form.

**Reminder** Accessible Van Rentals

Did you know that Fleet Services has a vehicle available for rent with wheelchair access? If you have a staff member, student, or guest in a wheelchair, we have a vehicle to accommodate their needs. The vehicle, a Mobility Ventures MV-1, has an internal, powered ramp and securement points inside the van to allow persons to be transported safely. If you need to reserve this vehicle, you can use our standard Fleet Services requisition available through Employee Self-Service. When submitting your requisition choose “Accessible Van” as the vehicle type. The rate for the accessible vehicle is the same as the rate for a mini-van. Also, please allow approximately 30 minutes prior to your departure time for some training on how to use the van.  

Large Truck Drop Off and Parking

When dropping off large trucks for service please do not pull forward into a spot in the maintenance row or along the fence. With the CAMBUS traffic through our lot there is a risk that a truck parked in this manor could get hit by a bus. We would prefer you to back the truck into a spot, park in the spots coned off just south of the fuel island or stop in at the shop and ask us where to leave the vehicle.

Fleet Factoid

The busiest weekday at our fuel island is Wednesday, I guess you could say that hump day is pump day! So far this year we have been averaging 1,710 gallons dispensed on Wednesdays.
