Parking and Transportation manages capacity in all parking facilities across campus. An employee parking permit does not guarantee a parking place at all times; however, the department works diligently to ensure permit holders are able to access a parking space in their assigned parking lot. Construction, special events, snow and other inclement weather can lead to full parking lots.

Parking locations with access gates

Mixed use gated facilities have a FULL sign used at entry to indicate that public parking is temporarily not available. Parking lot specific permit holders are able to access their assigned lot when the FULL light is on. For example, Parking Lot 10, Newton Road Ramp permit holders can access Newton Road Ramp when the FULL light is on.

Parking lots without gates

Most large surface lots on campus do not have parking gates and may be used (intentionally or accidentally) by non-permit holders during Reserved Parking hours. Citations may be issued for these instances.

On the rare occasion a reserved parking lot is full, permit holders will need to drive to the nearest open surface parking lot and contact Parking and Transportation. They will need to provide their name, license plate, normal permit lot, and where the vehicle is currently parked. For example, a Parking Lot 85, Hawkeye Commuter permit holder may park in Parking Lot 39, Hawkeye Storge and contact the Parking Office.

Permit holders may also use a public parking facility or a mobile parking space and pay the associated charges for the time parked in that area. No refunds are provided when public parking is used.
