The webpage includes details for employee about parking reserved for patients, parking for your health care appointments, and how to cancel or appeal a citation for "employee in patient reserved area" tickets.

To make parking easier for patients, many university locations have parking lots or facilities that are reserved for patients and their visitors 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

During these hours, unless attending your health care appointment, faculty, staff, employees, students, and vendors should use designated employee parking, vendor parking, or public, non-patient facilities.

Employee in patient reserved area

Employees or vendors cannot park in a patient-only space during reserved hours unless attending a health care appointment.

Vehicles registered to employees or vendors may receive a citation if parked in patient-only areas during reserved hours. Citations for parking during reserved hours in patient-only parking locations are issued by email rather than printed.

Cancelling an e-citation

If you receive an e-citation while attending an appointment or visiting a patient, you can request to cancel by completing the Patient parking verification form.

This form enables the Parking and Transportation Department to verify your appointment with UI Health Care.

Once your appointment is verified, the e-citation will be cancelled. Citation cancellations can take up to two weeks to process. You will receive an email confirming the cancellation.

Appealing an e-citation

There are scenarios when faculty and staff who receive an e-citation may need to submit an appeal request instead of the verification form. Appeals must be submitted within 10 calendar days of the e-citation issue date. Examples include:

  • Your e-citation cannot be cancelled due to lack of verification or

  • You were donating blood or

  • You were volunteering at University of Iowa Health Care or

  • You feel that your parking citation was issued contrary to the Parking and Transportation Regulations or was simply issued in error

For step-by-step instructions for making appeals, see the Parking Portal Information page.

Free patient parking

Parking is free for patients attending appointment at UI Health Care, including employees attending their appointments.

There is no fee to park on the UI Health Care North Liberty campus or UI Health Care downtown campus.

Parking ramps on the UI Health Care university campus charge a fee, so patients are provided a pass for free parking when attending appointments.

Patient parking pass

The patient parking pass is provided to you either at check-in for a clinic visit or at discharge for an outpatient procedure or inpatient stay.

The patient parking pass works in combination with a transaction ticket.

Please take a parking transaction ticket when entering the parking facility.

When you exit the ramp, insert the transaction ticket into the pay-in-lane equipment and scan the patient parking pass bar code.

Do not use your parking access card/NW privileges while attending your health care appointment.
