Equipment that allows for easy access to electric vehicle (EV) charging on campus has been installed in Parking Lot 21, Pappajohn Business Building. This EV charging station is now available for public use Monday through Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. and all weekend. Parking Lot 21 is reserved for faculty and staff use Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are available in four University of Iowa parking facilities. EV charging stations located in the Pappajohn Business Building, North Campus Parking Ramp, Newton Road Parking Ramp, and Hospital Parking Ramp 3. Charging an electric vehicle is free, but customers are required to pay the applicable hourly parking fees. Charging sessions are limited to four hours.  

Parking and Transportation is committed to supporting and enabling travel to campus through environmentally friendly modes including public transportation, carpooling, and bicycling. The Pappajohn Business Building EV charging station is part of an ongoing project to explore additional EV station locations throughout campus in response to demand. According to a 2022 survey implemented by Parking and Transportation, over 200 respondents stated that they or someone in their household owns a plug-in electric vehicle. Offering electric vehicle charging amenities on campus builds upon the university’s history of supporting a variety of transportation modes and amenities.
