Why do we charge for parking?
At the University of Iowa, we charge for parking because our parking system is self-supporting and does not receive state or university funding. This means that the revenue generated from parking fees pays for all the related expenses such as construction costs, maintenance, and operations. By doing so, we can provide you with the best possible parking experience and ensure that our parking system is sustainable in the long run.

Patient parking rates and details
Patient Parking Pass
The hospital will provide patients a pass for free parking while receiving care on the main Iowa City campus. Free parking is already available at all UI Health Care off-site clinics in the Iowa City area, including Scott Boulevard, North Dodge, Sports Medicine, and Iowa River Landing.
Patient Parking
Patients attending their health care appointment are provided a parking pass for free parking. Patients receive the Patient Parking Pass either at check-in for a clinic visit or at discharge for an outpatient procedure or inpatient stay.
Please take a ticket from the ticket dispenser upon entering a facility. When exiting, present both the ticket and the Patient Parking Pass to the pay in lane equipment. See the Pay in Lane page for details on how to process payment at the parking equipment.

Patient visitor parking and booklet
UI Health Care Visitor Parking
Visitors are not eligible for free parking, but a Visitor Parking Pass Booklet can limit the cost to park when visiting a patient. Learn more about the visitor pass by visiting this page: Visitor Parking Pass Booklet.
Free parking is available for UI Health Care visitors in the Hawkeye Commuter Lot on the west campus and linked to the medical center by frequent, no-fare transit service by CAMBUS. A temporary parking permit is required to park there.
