Beginning Sept. 6, University of Iowa faculty and staff parked for their health care appointments should not receive a citation during reserved parking hours at the UI Hospitals & Clinics main campus. Faculty and staff parked in a ramp during reserved hours for any reason other than their health care appointment may receive a citation for “employee in patient parking”. To implement the improvement, citations for parking during reserved hours in hospital parking facilities will be issued by email to faculty and staff rather than printed.

Employees in ramp policy reminder

UI Parking and Transportation reserves Hospital Parking Ramps 1, 2, and 4 for patients and visitors from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Faculty and staff parking in these facilities during business hours may receive a citation for violating the “employee prohibited in patient parking” policy. When parking as a patient or visitor, employees may use these facilities.

Electronic citations

Any citation for parking in space reserved for hospital patients and visitors after Sept. 6, 2022 will be issued electronically by email as an e-citation. There are scenarios when faculty and staff who receive a citation may submit a request to have it cancelled via the UIHC Verification Form or citation appeal.

Examples of these possible scenarios include:

  • Donating blood at DeGowin Blood Center

  • Attending appointments at University Employee Health Clinic

  • Volunteering at UI Hospitals & Clinics

  • Visiting or accompanying a patient
