Permit holders directly impacted by game day parking (lot closures, relocations, etc.) will receive direct email communication from Parking and Transportation. Provided below are details for all employees and patients looking to park during football game days.
Patient and visitor parking on football game days
Parking Ramp 1, Parking Ramp 2, Parking Ramp 4, and Newton Road Ramp are reserved for patients and their visitors during home football games. Patients and their visitors should use either Parking Ramps 1, 2, or 4. Parking Ramp 3 is dedicated to game day parking.
Drivers are advised to arrive at UI Health Care (Parking Ramps 1, 2, and 4) from the north via Hawkins Drive due to temporary road closures around the stadium.
Most parking facilities around Kinnick Stadium are dedicated to game day on Friday evenings and all-day Saturday of home football games. Parking and Transportation recognizes that employees and patients still require parking accommodations during these events. Below is information related to parking lot closures and alternate parking options during game day.
Game Day Parking and Football Shuttles
UI Athletics manages football parking and information for fans and game attendees can be found on the Hawkeye Sports website.
CAMBUS provides shuttle service during home football games from select parking lots to near Kinnick Stadium.
City of Iowa City parking ramps are another game day parking option for fans in the downtown area. Football fans parking in the City ramps can use the CAMBUS Downtown shuttle to get to the game.
Employee parking on football game days
East Campus
Parking Lot 3, Library Lot is dedicated to football parking. Permit holders can use Recreation Center Lot - Lot 11, Iowa Memorial Union (IMU) Ramp, or North Campus Ramp as the closest alternative to park on game day. Faculty and staff permit holders are reminded they may use their Night and Weekend (NW) privileges to park in these alternate lots. Permit holders must use their parking access card to both enter and exit parking facilities to use their NW privileges.
West Campus and UI Health Care
Employees scheduled or called into work should use Parking Ramp 1, Parking Ramp 2, Parking Ramp 4, or Newton Road Ramp during home football games.
Faculty and staff permit holders are reminded they may use their Night and Weekend (NW) privileges to park in these alternate lots. To use NW privileges, permit holders must use their parking access card to both enter and exit the parking facility.
Permit holders directly impacted by game day operations will receive direct communication from Parking and Transportation via email the week of each game.
Prior to home games
Beginning at 6 p.m. Fridays before home games, Krause Family Plaza (KFP) in Parking Lot 43 south of Kinnick Stadium is closed to all vehicles. In most cases, this will be 6 p.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Sunday. All permit holders must remove their vehicle from Krause Family Plaza during the closure.
Other parking lots around Kinnick Stadium including Parking Lot 43 N and south Parking Lot 75 are cleared to allow large vehicles to enter overnight. Signs are posted several days in advance to alert affected permit holders to remove their vehicles by the time posted, typically 6 p.m. the night before home games.
Beginning at 6 p.m. the night before home games, no vehicles will be allowed to enter Parking Lot 43 and all faculty and staff arriving for work should instead use Hospital Parking Ramps 1, 2, and 4.
Day of home games
Beginning at 6 a.m. the day of home games, Evashevski Drive will be closed at Hawkins Drive and no vehicles will be allowed to enter the following parking facilities: Parking lots 33, 40, 43, 46/47, 65, 75, and 80 (Parking Ramp 3).
On home game days, motorists are advised to arrive at UI Health Care from the north via Hawkins Drive due to temporary road closures around the stadium. Road closures:
- Hawkeye Wave Way and Hawkins Drive between Melrose Avenue and Evashevski Drive are closed to traffic beginning 2.5 hours before kickoff until two hours after the game has ended.
- Melrose Avenue between Olive Court and Hawkins Drive is closed 1 hours before kickoff.
