CAMBUS is implementing service adjustments on Sept. 1, 2020, based on the first week of ridership data from the fall 2020 semester to better match resources with campus and rider needs. Adjustments include reinstating service to four stops that were temporarily closed and reallocating some service from the West Dorm Shuttle and Mayflower Shuttle Service. No changes will be made to weekday service after 7 p.m. or weekend service at this time.

Frequent daytime service, about every six to 10 minutes, continues for west campus and Mayflower residence halls through a combination of the Interdorm-WCTC route, West Dorm Shuttle, and Mayflower Shuttle.

Service adjustments effective Tuesday, Sept. 1

Multiple buses provide service on the routes Mayflower Shuttle and West Dorm Shuttle between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. A preliminary evaluation of boarding data indicated most trips on these routes had five or fewer riders during the first week of the fall semester.

One bus from each route is being reallocated during the daytime to help meet other service needs, and service on these routes ends at 4 p.m. Current data suggest that most trips between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. will not exceed 15 riders.

West Campus Residence Halls

7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays

The West Dorm Shuttle now provides departures every 15 minutes. Together, the West Dorm Shuttle and Interdorm-WCTC route provide departures from the west campus to the Pentacrest about every six to 10 minutes.

4 to 7 p.m. weekdays

Interdorm-WCTC service departures will take place about every 12 minutes.

Mayflower Residence Hall

7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays

Mayflower Shuttle now provides departures every 20 minutes. Together, Mayflower Shuttle and Interdorm-WCTC routes provide departures from Mayflower Hall to the Pentacrest about every eight to 10 minutes.

Service change information and data

In preparation for the fall 2020 semester, CAMBUS modeled ridership needs using a moderate reduction in student ridership. Preliminary data from the fall 2020 semester indicates a larger than expected decrease in ridership on student-focused routes. CAMBUS is reallocating a portion of this underutilized service to help meet other needs across campus and cover staffing shortfalls due to the coronavirus.

Parking and Transportation continues to make adjustments to support the critical needs of the University of Iowa and UI Hospitals & Clinics. Adjustments are approved by the UI Critical Incident Management Team (CIMT).

Accessibility

The Parking and Transportation Department is committed to promoting campus accessibility through mobility solutions for all students, staff, faculty, and visitors.  In addition to fixed-route bus services, CAMBUS also operates a door-to-door paratransit bus service for students, faculty, and staff called the Bionic bus.
