The University of Iowa now boasts seven bicycle repair stations on our campus, four of which are brand new. New locations include Burge Hall, Eckstein Medical Research Building, Hillcrest Hall, and Iowa Memorial Union. Why has the number of repair stations suddenly doubled? Collaboration and passionate students and staff.

University of Iowa Student Government approached UI Parking and Transportation this past September about adding more bicycle repair stations. Their organization had identified this initiative as a way they could improve student life on campus. Fortunately Michelle Ribble, commuter programs manager, has become a skilled bike repair station planner and was able to make the installation process smooth and easy for UISG.

Many UI students, faculty, and staff rely on bicycling to and from campus as an affordable and healthy means of transportation. Repair stations make it easier for bicyclists to stay on the road by providing tools to perform basic fixes.

Repair stations feature a stand to mount a bicycle and have wrenches, screwdrivers, tire levers, and tire pumps to help with basic repairs and maintenance.  The stations are free to use and have a Quick Read (QR) code on the front of the station to view repair instructions on your phone to help with repairs.
