Permit details

Night and Weekend (NW) parking privileges allow free parking for permit holders in some gated UI parking facilities during specific night and weekend hours, generally between 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. Monday – Friday and all weekend long.

Any registered student not living in a residence hall may obtain this permit. The permit can be cancelled at any time for a prorated refund. Permits are billed by semester and will financially renew on January 1st for the spring semester unless cancelled beforehand.

Parking access cards are used for NW privileges. Student permits assigned to a gated facility are automatically issued a parking access card.

Inappropriate use of permit

Access cards are only allowed to be used between 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. Monday - Friday, and all weekend. If the card is used to enter a gated lot or ramp outside of this time frame, permit holders may be subject to a fine of $50 for inappropriate use of their permit.

  • For example, if you enter at 11:00 a.m., but do not leave until 6:00 p.m., this would be considered inappropriate use of your permit.

  • If you enter at 8:00 a.m., but do not leave until 4:30 p.m., this would be considered inappropriate use of your permit.

Inappropriate use of your permit such as in the examples above will result in a maximum hourly rate charge and a $50.00 ticket. Continued use of your permit in this manner may result in the permit being cancelled, and/or your vehicle may be towed/barnacled.

Log into the Parking Portal, then the Student Night and Weekend permit will be available if you are eligible.  This permit will be unavailable to students beginning Aug. 1, 2024 until further notice.

Make sure all vehicle information is entered accurately as your license plate will be your permit. Failure to accurately provide your vehicle information will result in a citation.

You will need to retrieve a parking access card from Parking Services to utilize this permit.

To cancel your permit you will need to complete the  Cancel Permit Form. You will be charged for the permit until it is cancelled or expires.  You will receive a refund if cancelled before the end of the semester as we prorate by half month. If you fail to cancel your permit, you are responsible for the time the permit was active. Your refund will be based on the date you complete the cancellation form.

  • When entering the facility, pull to a stop with the driver’s side window in line with the card reader. Present the card to the face of the reader, holding it parallel to, and no more than three inches from, the target decal on the reader surface.

  • The time and location of the entry will be noted. Use the same procedure to exit.

  • You must always use the access card to enter or exit the facility if using your permit.

  • Use the card to exit when the gates are up late at night. Simply stop and present the card to the reader. Your exiting time is noted even though the gate does not respond.
