Night and Weekend (NW) parking privileges allow free parking for permit holders in some gated UI parking facilities during specific night and weekend hours, generally between 4:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. Monday – Friday and all weekend long.

Any registered student not living in a residence hall may obtain this permit. The permit can be cancelled at any time for a prorated refund. Permits are billed by semester and will financially renew on Jan. 1 for the spring semester unless cancelled beforehand.

Parking access cards are used for NW privileges. Permits that require an access card are automatically issued a parking access card.

How to use your access card

Never share, transfer or pass-back a parking access card. Each incidence will result in a daily maximum charge and is considered theft and may be prosecuted.

Entry

  • When entering the facility, pull to a stop with the driver’s side window in line with the card reader. Present the card to the face of the reader, holding it parallel to, and no more than three inches from, the target decal on the reader surface.

  • The time and location of the entry will be noted. Use the same procedure to exit.

  • If using your permit, you must always use the access card to both enter and exit the facility.  Do not pull a transaction ticket upon entry and attempt to use the card when exiting. This will result in a daily maximum charge for every incident.

Exit

  • Use the card to exit even when the gates are up. Simply stop and present the card to the reader. Your exiting time is noted even though the gate may already be up and not respond.

How to order your virtual permit

Log into the Parking Portal, then the Student Night and Weekend permit will be available if you are eligible.

Make sure all vehicle information is entered accurately as your license plate will be your permit. Failure to accurately provide your vehicle information will result in a citation.

You will need to retrieve a parking access card from Parking Services to utilize this permit.

How to cancel your permit

To cancel your permit you will need to complete the  Cancel Permit Form. You will be charged for the permit until it is cancelled or expires.  You will receive a refund if cancelled before the end of the semester as we prorate by half month. If you fail to cancel your permit, you are responsible for the time the permit was active. Your refund will be based on the date you complete the cancellation form.

Inappropriate use of permit

Inappropriate use of permit

  • Student NW privileges are not valid in Hospital Parking Ramps 1, 2, and 4, as these facilities are reserved for patients.
  • Access cards are only allowed to be used between 4:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. Monday - Friday, and all weekend. Please do not use the access card for daytime parking. If the card is used to enter a gated lot or ramp outside of this time frame, permit holders may be subject to a fine of $30 for inappropriate use of their permit. For example, if you enter at 4:00 a.m., but do not leave until 4:00 p.m., this would be considered inappropriate use of your permit.
  • Do not pull a transaction ticket upon entry and attempt to use the card when exiting. This will result in a daily maximum charge for every incident.
  • Never share, transfer or pass-back a parking access card. Each incidence will result in a daily maximum charge and is considered theft and may be prosecuted.

Inappropriate use of your permit such as in the examples above will result in a maximum hourly rate charge and a $50.00 ticket. Continued use of your permit in this manner may result in the permit being cancelled, and/or your vehicle may be towed/barnacled.
