The University of Iowa and University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics maintain facilities offsite of the main campus in Iowa City.  Parking and Transportation manages some parking and provides transportation options where possible for several of these facilities listed below.

For employees assigned to offsite facilities see Permit Reciprocity arrangements for parking on main campus.   Public parking facilities can also be used to visit main campus (not including some hospital ramps), but normal parking rates will apply.

Iowa River Landing

Transit

The City of Coralville provides convenient transit service that connects the main campus and IRL via Route 20: Iowa River Landing and the Route 24/25: Night/Saturday routes. Service is more frequent during the AM and PM peak hours. Please see the City of Coralville bus schedule and route map page for the most up to date information on these routes.

CAMBUS also provides service to the Iowa River Landing via the 34 Research Park Route. Service is every 30 minutes during the AM and PM peak hours. Please see the CAMBUS Routes, Schedules and Maps page for the most up to date information.

All three local transit agencies - CAMBUS, Iowa City Transit and the City of Coralville Transit – use the Transit app to provide real-time bus location, arrival times, alerts, maps, trip planning and more. See our Transit page for more information and to download this essential transit tool.

Parking

The University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics offers primary and specialty health care at the Iowa River Landing. Parking at IRL is provided in parking facilities and structures managed by the City of Coralville.

Parking and Transportation and the City of Coralville work together to allow university permits at the IRL West and Intermodal Facility Ramps. Employees assigned to work at IRL or IRLE are eligible for an IRL West or Intermodal Ramp permit. The City of Coralville also honors most university main campus employee and student parking permits, except for NW permits, in the IRL West Ramp. Employees are assigned to park in the upper levels of the IRL West Ramp, leaving the lower floors for patient and public parking.

N/W Privileges are provided with IRL permits for use on the main campus via a university parking access card. For employees who purchase an Intermodal Facility Ramp permit, a separate Coralville parking access card is required to enter/exit gates at this facility.

License plates are used as virtual parking permits on the university campus, including permits at the Oakdale campus. Specific rate and other permit information can be found on the employee and student parking pages.

Employees and students who do not maintain a campus permit can park in the hourly parking facilities at IRL and pay the applicable daily rate.

UI Research Park/Oakdale Campus

Most parking at the UI Research Parking/Oakdale Campus will transition to being managed and maintained by Parking and Transportation. In addition to providing dedicated maintenance from permit revenue, enforcing the space as a reserved parking lot will ensure employee and business parking is accommodated during primary business hours.

A comprehensive review of the existing parking network is underway, and details of any future changes to parking will be announced as they become available.

Transit

CAMBUS provides service to the UI Research Park/Oakdale Campus via the 34 Research Park Route. Service is every 30 minutes during the AM and PM peak hours. Please see the CAMBUS Routes, Schedules and Maps page for the most up to date information. Again, download the Transit app for real-time bus information.

Parking facilities at Oakdale campus

Parking and Transportation has historically provided parking permits for HSSB, but the building occupants managed the enforcement and maintenance of the parking areas. Effective August 2021, Parking and Transportation assumes parking enforcement at HSSB, Lot 221.  Parking lot maintenance will remain the responsibility of the building occupants.

A parking permit is required on weekdays during the enforcement hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Permits allowed during enforcement hours include: HSSB, OAK and main campus employee and student permits.  NW permits are not allowed during enforcement hours. Motorcycles can park in vehicle stalls at this time, but the license plate and permit must be facing the drive lane.

Portions of the lot will be dedicated to ADA, visitor, public and loading zone parking. Users should look for signage throughout the parking lot to understand the limits of employee parking. Signage for these dedicated parking areas will be installed fall 2021.

Public parking spaces will be signed with ParkMobile zone signs and will require payment via ParkMobile, the campus mobile parking payment option.

License plates are used as virtual parking permits on the university campus, including permits at offsite locations. Specific rate and other permit information can be found on the employee and student parking pages.
